Fabricator Questions
Our bumper kits come as pre-cut, pre-bent pieces, however, cutting, mitering or coping is required for the tube portion of 1.5 & 2.5 prerunners as well as our full grille bumper kits.
A professional welder should be able to tack a basic bumper/grille guard in 4 hours or less.
Assess your own ability and choose accordingly. Pre-runners are much simpler than grille guards. A professional fabricator, on his/her first bumper, should be able to build a complete bumper/grille guard in a day. Repetition equates to efficiency.
The most complex bumper can be built with basic welding tools, like:
- Mig welder capable of welding 1/4" plate.
- 4-1/2" angle grinder with grinding wheels, cutting wheels, and buffing wheels.
- Chop saw is convenient but not required.
- Welding blanket or some means of protection for the truck.
The truck along with the bumper will act as the jig for a single project, professionals that make a living building these bumpers build jigs.
Please note: Cut, miter or coping is required for the tube portion of 1.5 & 2.5 prerunners as well as our full grille bumper kits.
Caution: If you're not sure of the welding and tools mentioned here, it would be best for you to hire a professional to build your bumper kit for you.
They come in about five main pieces and also include frame mounts, a few trim pieces and clevis hooks. The pieces are pre-cut and pre-bent, designed to fit up to your truck's specific year, make, and model.
Please note: Cut, miter or coping is required for the tube portion of 1.5 & 2.5 prerunners as well as our full grille bumper kits.
Our bumper kits are made of 3/16” steel. We also provide an option to upgrade to our off-road package, which makes the bumper ¼”. Customers have reported the bumpers saving their lives in accidents, and you can view some stories by checking out reviews on our site or Facebook. However, the ultimate strength of the bumper depends on you as the fabricator.
No, we do not sell our blueprints for our DIY bumper kits. However, we would be happy to sell you a bumper kit.
Technical Questions
You as the fabricator will need to modify the bumper to match the sensors on your truck. You can contact us for more information on how to quickly and easily do this.
Our winch is modeled after a basic/standard 8000 lb. Warn winch. We have heard of customers that use a 12,000 lbs., but we haven’t tested anything larger than the 8000 lbs.
We designed our bumpers to fit around a traditional 2" receiver hitch. There may be a conflict with new class 5 factory hitches, some fabricator modifications may be needed.
You as the fabricator will have to make slight and simple modifications to the frame mounts to accommodate for the body lift. You would bolt your frame mounts onto your frame and then adjust your center section to the height you want it and then tack the frame mounts to the center section. If you have any trouble making those modifications our team is ready to answer any of your questions over the phone.
We recommend and sell North Lights as their cube pod lights and 20" and 30" light bars are designed to fit our bumper kits. We also offer additional LED lights such as rock lights and ditch/side lights.
We can't say for sure, our bumpers stick out about 2-4” further from the grille. We don't know if that is enough clearance, as we haven't tested our bumpers out with a snowplow. We recommend that you contact the manufacturer of the snowplow for further direction.
