Move Frequently Asked Questions

GENERAL QUESTIONS

WHAT IS A DIY BUMPER KIT?

Our DIY bumper kits are a weld-it-yourself alternative to the expensive fully-finished bumpers on the market. You customize your bumper kit, and we ship it to you in pieces ready to be welded together and mounted to your truck, SUV, or van.

Don't want to weld? Check out our Classic Prefab Bumper Kits! These prefabricated kits come in three main modular pieces that bolt together with common garage tools.

WHAT COMES WITH A DIY BUMPER KIT?

MOVE DIY Bumper Kits ship as an unfinished kit of raw steel pieces, including 5 main pieces, frame mounts, and a few trim pieces. You'll use your own factory bolts. The pieces are pre-cut and pre-bent to fit your truck’s specific make, model and year and come ready for you to fit and weld together, using your truck as the jig, before bolting onto your truck. Instructions and assembly drawings are included to help walk you through your bumper build.

Please note: Cutting, mitering or coping is required for the tube portion of bull bar, prerunner, and full grille bumper kits.

DO DIFFERENT KITS COME WITH DIFFERENT PARTS?

All kits include frame mounts specific to your vehicle, plus:

Standard Front Bumper Kit: Comes in 5 main pieces (all 3/16” plate), including the center, 2 wings and 2 end caps.

Supporting Components: Includes ½” plate tow hook plates (clevis hooks), and 3/16" frame mounts, also included are light mounting brackets and trim in 1/8" pl. These vary depending on vehicle model.

Bull Bar/PreRunner: An upgrade to the standard bumper, the kit comes with extra parts, including a center 1.5” diameter tube and two 1.25” diameter wing tubes with an option to upgrade to a 2.5” center with 2” wing tubes.

BUMPER KIT QUESTIONS

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CLASSIC, PRECISION, EMBARK, FALCON AND HERITAGE SERIES?

All MOVE bumper kits come standard in 3/16" U.S. steel, are cut and bent for your specific vehicle, and offer upgrade options like front protection, light holes, and more. The main difference between our different series is how they look on your vehicle.

Our Classic Series is our flagship bumper kit! Designed with utility in mind, it's winch-capable, offers a variety of front protection options, has multiple light cutout options, and can be customized with custom text and center designs. It's beefy, bold, and ready to be put to work.

The Precision Series is a sleeker, sportier twist on the Classic. The Precision is more angular and edgy while still maintaining the strength and durability MOVE customers love. It features Universal Light Pockets rather than square cutouts - this allows you to add different types and sizes of LED lights and adds a unique visual design. Precision kits can be customized with custom text, center designs and front protection options.

The Embark Series is a tubular bumper kit that provides high-clearance for off-road use. It's light, winch-capable, and gives vehicles a trail-ready look. Add a bull bar or trick tabs for mounting LED lights.

The Falcon Series is our slimmest bumper kit option. Designed to fit high and tight, customers love it for it's low-profile look. Customize it with front protection options, light hole cutouts, and sensor cutouts on select vehicles.

The Heritage Series is specifically designed for classic vehicles. Providing practical utility and classic style ideal for everyday use, Heritage maintains the true look of your classic truck or SUV while giving it added strength and durability. Customize it with front protection options and square or round light hole cutouts

WHAT DOES "OFFROAD" MEAN?

Our Classic and Embark bumper kits have an Offroad version for customers needing extra durability. The center section of the bumper and frame mounts are upgraded to 1/4" plate, and larger 3/4" clevis mount are available as an upgrade option. You can also add a winch mount which includes a lead hole, access holes and a 1/4" winch mounting plate.

HOW MUCH DO BUMPER KITS WEIGH?

  • Standard Front (~110 lbs)
  • PreRunner (~130 lbs)
  • Full Grille (~160 lbs)
  • Standard Rear (~85 lbs)
  • Offroad Front (~120 lbs)
  • Offroad PreRunner (~155 lbs)
  • Offroad Full Grille (~195)

WHAT GAUGE STEEL ARE THE BUMPER KITS MADE OF?

Our standard bumper kits are made of 3/16" plate (9 gauge). Our offroad bumper kits (Classic and Embark) are made of 1/4" for the center section and frame mounts and 3/16" for the wing sections. All bumper kits are made in Montana with U.S. steel.

DO THE BUMPER KITS COME PAINTED OR POWDERCOATED?

No they do not. All bumper kits come as raw (unpainted) steel. Painting, powder coating or lining must be done after the bumper is welded or bolted together.

WHAT DOES A WINCH MOUNT CONSIST OF?

Our winch mount (Classic and Embark Offroad kits) includes a lead hole, access holes and a 1/4" winch mounting plate.

CAN YOU CUT LIGHT HOLES IN MY BUMPER KIT?

When you are ordering your bumper kit, you can select the option (if available) to add wing light holes (single or double) or universal wing light cutouts. There is also the option on select bumper kits to add a 20" or 30" light bar cutout. Embark bumper kits have the option for wing light trick tabs, and Heritage kits have the option for square or round light holes.

FABRICATOR QUESTIONS

IS CUTTING, MITERING OR COPING REQUIRED?

Our bumper kits come as pre-cut, pre-bent pieces, however, cutting, mitering or coping is required for the tube portion of prerunner, bull bar, and full grille bumper kits.

WHAT TOOLS AND EXPERIENCE DO I NEED?

A professional welder should be able to tack a bumper kit in 4 hours or less. Assess your own ability and choose accordingly. Prerunners are much simpler than full grilles. A professional fabricator, on their first bumper, should be able to build a complete full grille in a day. Repetition equates to efficiency. The most complex bumper can be built with basic welding tools like:

  • MIG welder (capable of welding 1/4" plate)
  • 4-1/2" angle grinder with grinding, cutting, and buffing wheels
  • Chop saw (convenient but not required)
  • Welding blanket

The truck along with the bumper will act as the jig for a single project, however, professionals that make a living building these bumpers build jigs.

Caution: If you're not familiar with the process and tools mentioned here, we recommend hiring a professional to build your bumper kit for you.

HOW MANY PIECES DO THE BUMPER KITS COME IN?

MOVE bumper kits ship as an unfinished kit of raw steel pieces, including 5 main pieces, frame mounts, and a few trim pieces. The pieces are pre-cut and pre-bent, designed to fit the specific vehicle it was ordered for.

WILL YOUR BUMPERS HOLD UP IN AN ACCIDENT?

Our bumper kits are made of heavy-duty 3/16" to 1/4" steel. Customers have reported their bumper saving their lives in accidents, and you can view some stories by checking out our reviews and social media. However, the ultimate strength of the bumper depends on you as the fabricator.

CAN YOU SELL ME THE FILES?

No, we do not sell our files for our DIY bumper kits.

TECHNICAL QUESTIONS

DO THE BUMPER KITS WORK WITH SENSORS?

You as the fabricator will need to modify the bumper to match the sensors on your truck. You can contact us for more information on how to quickly and easily do this.

WHAT SIZE WINCH WILL FIT?

Our winch mount is designed around a standard 8000lb Warn winch. We have heard from customers who have fit a 12,000lbs or higher, but we haven't tested anything larger than the 8,000lb. You can contact us for measurements of your specific vehicle.

WILL A REAR BUMPER INTERFERE WITH MY FACTORY HITCH?

We designed our bumpers to fit around a traditional 2" receiver hitch. There may be a conflict with new class 5 factory hitches, and some fabricator modifications may be needed.

WILL A BUMPER KIT WORK WITH MY BODY LIFT?

You as the fabricator will have to make slight and simple modifications to the frame mounts to accommodate for the body lift. You'll bolt your frame mounts to your frame, adjust your center section to your desired height, and then tack the frame mounts to the center section. If you have questions before your order or any trouble making those modifications, contact us.

WHAT LED LIGHTS WILL FIT MY BUMPER KIT?

Our kits are designed to fit North Lights. They're available for purchase on our site and offer pod and bar options. We also offer additional LED lighting like rock lights and ditch lights.

DO MOVE BUMPERS WORK WITH A SNOW PLOW?

We can't say for sure since our bumpers stick out about 2-4" further than the average stock bumper. We don't know if that is enough clearance, but we can send you measurements for your vehicle if you contact us. We also recommend contacting the manufacturer of the snowplow for further direction.
